ARIES

Tara

Hermetic Tarot, 1979, US Games Systems

Child of Mars, you have some difficulties ahead this month. Good thing you are uniquely suited to face challenges and even delight in the process of conquering them! I have pulled three cards from the Hermetic Tarot that will give you a sense of what themes will be relevant in your life from this New Moon until the next. They seem to me to progress chronologically but may also be experienced simultaneously.

The Four of Swords offers a chance to retreat from the battle to a place of solace where you can mend your wounds and rethink your strategy. You may have lost your sense of balance, composure or self and will be able to regain it by taking some time alone for contemplation and rest. You are at heart an independent, self-sustaining and self-directed being who draws strength and power from the solitude represented by this card.

The inner strength regained during your “rest from strife” will serve you well as you return to the battle in the Five of Swords. In this phase the best thing you can do may be to accept defeat, as any victory attained here may end up feeling hollow, empty and unwanted. It can be painful to realize that what you have been striving so hard towards will not be yours or go your way in the end.

The Aries drive to always persevere, power through obstacles and never admit defeat is sorely tried here. You may have to face the fact that sometimes no amount of dedication, work or enthusiasm can produce the results you seek. It can seem very against your nature to go with the flow rather than trying to force reality to conform to your will, and this month will give you the opportunity to grapple with that construct.

This leads to your third card of the month, the Eight of Cups. Again as in the Four of Swords, retreat, seclusion and disengagement are indicated. Like a hungry leopard who has failed to catch her prey, you must abandon the hunt to slink off into the wilderness. You must seek healing and rejuvenation. You have lost the battle but not the war. Remember who you really are and what your real motivations and desires are. This minor loss has opened up an opportunity in your life to explore new horizons and put your energies towards more rewarding pursuits. A short trip alone or excursion into the woods or desert may be in order.

TAURUS

HiC

CARDS FOR TAURUS • III The EMPRESS
HERBAL ALLY • DONG QUAI

Ponder this …

• How can I welcome others on the journey of life into my world ?
Do I take a chance on a new beginning that feels promising, or forever linger in the shallow water of tried and true pathways ?
• What’s been gestating that it’s time to birth into being from idea, inspiration, desire, longing, goal to reality ?
• What does « Home » mean and look like to me ?

« At the end of the day, it isn’t where I came from. Maybe home is somewhere I’m going and never have been before. » ~ Warsan Shire

A couple of astrological notes to be aware of for this month. With the Jupiter – Neptune Trine slowly evaporating over the coming weeks, this month has the potential now for more dreams coming true … or for the illusion of success to be challenged by the facts. Both outcomes are encouraged by the Neptune square to the Full Moon in Gemini. It’s our choice whether we are going to sit up straight and deal with all the issues on the table looking for a way to compromise or ignore the facts feel the dark side of the planets involved (Neptune = Lies, (self)-deception, victimisation, escapism, addiction, manipulation or exploitation by others … Moon in Gemini = paranoia, emotional detachment, callousness, gossip, duplicity, superficial short-term gratification, erratic, flaky).

We also want to make note that Mercury is Retrograde in Sagittarius from 2 Dec ~ 22 Dec. As this covers much of the major holiday season, it calls particular attention to problems, delays, breakdowns, and cancellations related to travel … so double check details, confirm reservations, have printed copies of confirmations, and consider having alternate plans or routes thought about ahead of time. If we can step away from our comfort zone and the expected, we are likely to find during this time opportunity for pilgrimages and unexpected journeys and detours. Embrace the journey rather than obsess about the destination and discover new places, hidden meanings, unexpected experiences.

The appearance of the Empress card for this month is a grand and bold reminder that being open to the creative flow from within, in life, and of universal energy nourishes fertile ground for ideas, projects, goals, dreams to burst forth full of future potential.

As we near the end of the calendar year, we tend to look back and ponder where we’ve come from, what we’ve accomplished, what is left to do. During this time, let your thoughts also turn to what’s been quietly gestating, waiting for the right time or the right conditions to be brought forth into being. It may now be time, and we want to start tending to the necessities of how we can start turning that idea, that impulse, that desire, that longing into reality.

There’s a fullness and richness to life that we want to tap into this month. Relax into it. Bask in it. Give back as much or more as you have been given so that we foster a symbiotic relationship where all intertwined in the cycles of our life reap benefit, share and partake in the abundance, remembering that abundance can be something like the generosity in the number of hugs that are offered being just as valuable as money given.

Create a warm, welcoming, safe space where you can welcome in those without a home, without the anchor of friends or family. Be the den mother of the displaced.

« Home » is going to be a major theme of this upcoming cycle for you. Spend time connecting with what that means to you, how you want to go about creating it, and ultimately understanding that home doesn’t have to be something exterior or outside of yourself.

CANCER

Asali

Shrine of the Black Medusa Tarot by Casey Rocheteau ©2017

How will you remain tender in the firestorm, dear Cancer? That is the question asked of you during Sagittarius season. The Tower presents as the focal card for you right now. It asks you take inventory of your current status quo, habits, and comfort zones. What happens when they all fall away? And some will soon. What do you have already with you to survive the fall?

The Tower may be the focal energy but it is not the entirety of your story. On either side stand the Two of Swords and The Star, tranquil cards that remind you that you always have what you need within and around you to survive the storm. Look closely, make peace with what is not there, and focus your energy on the resources that are available to you. Additionally, the Two of Swords indicates that this shake-up isn’t going to happen without your active involvement; you are not just some abandoned paper-plane flapping in the wind. Harness the power of choosing the storm you choose to take on. Trust the energy of Sagittarius’ Archer to help you face what comes after.

The Star returns us to the question of tenderness. How do we hold onto softness and tenderness of soul and spirit even as we face what feels like the worst possible outcome? Allowing ourselves to enter the space of softness and tenderness of soul where love, hope, and faith grow while surrounded by fire and jagged edges may seem nonsensical but that is where we muster up the grace needed to move forward after The Tower wreaks its destruction.

Cry havoc!
Say grace.

LEO

Gina

Tarot del Fuego, Fournier, 2014

I’ve been living in my new house for the past five months and it’s glorious. In a series of magical events, I stumbled on a place that fulfills many  of my dreams, some of which I didn’t even know I had.

And would you guess how it feels? Terrifying.

I was talking to a friend the other day and we both agreed on this underrepresented truth: when we get what we want we don’t have anything to hide behind. No excuses, no outside forces making things difficult, no familiar tension or struggle giving life zest and meaning. Like it or not, we have a tendency to need things to push up against in order to give ourselves definition. Now, darling Leo, you’re being given support, plenty, and success. It’s just you.

When life gives us a blessing, when we’ve worked hard to realize something bigger, we’re often left feeling alone and exposed. Amidst all the bounty we have to contend with who we are. We have to be enough.

This Sagittarius season is bringing up similar themes of growth, gratitude, and reflection, dear Leo. You’re emerging from the culmination of something large and nearly-indescribable. Having traveled through a journey with so many stages you now find yourself at the end. It’s not what you envisioned. It might even be more than you imagined. And here you are.

Big endings and beautiful breakthroughs can leave you feeling like a captured animal suddenly released from its cage. Think of an adorable baby seal getting released on the beach. At first, everything seems frightening – loud and confusing – even though it’s really home. The World and The Moon show us the confusion that stems from breakthrough. It’s just momentary, however, and soon you’ll be cavorting joyfully to swim in the big and bountiful sea.

In other words, Sagittarius season is a big one for you, my Leo friend. The Page of Cups shows up to give you a calm balm of relaxation. There’s no need to swim off into the depths just yet. Take your time easing into the joys that surround you and counter any urges to plan and act quickly with gentleness. Take a relaxing bath instead of writing a to-do list that will only stress you out. Enjoy what you’ve given yourself and what’s been given to you.

Big accomplishments are also big transitions. Give yourself the gift of easing into the beautiful new world that’s waiting for you.

VIRGO

Colin

The Mythic Tarot first published by US Games Inc, 1986

As the year comes to its close, give some time and Virgo diligence to what your intentions for the coming year will be. Think about how to prepare to set them.

The Five of Pentacles is brilliantly placed here to help you let go. Let go of any failures, losses, mistakes, or stuff you could have done better. This is Mercury (the ruler of your Sun) moving swiftly through fixed earth. Take a good look at anything that didn’t work, absorb the lesson as best you can, then shake the dust, move on lighter in mind and heart.

Because…

The Nine of Wands aka The Lord of Great Strength awaits you. Ready to endure, ready to endow you with that mysterious burst of energy that can come just at the moment of greatest challenge, just when you are about to give up.

Have there been efforts that cost you? Projects that didn’t come off? No problem! We’ve all been there. Are you facing conflict, hazard, confusion on which way to turn? Great! This is where, as the motivational speakers say, ‘You get to find out who you really are’ – and that would be worth knowing, right?

Athena in the center of the spread is a warrior goddess. She’s not known for turning away from conflict. Whether this is a time of outward struggle, or of finding new inner resolve, the spread says that you do have the fortitude to do what it takes. These are cards to step away from anything that no longer serves you, to rouse energy, to fight for inspiration.

With Saturn moving through Sagittarius until the winter solstice (northern hemisphere), it’s a great time to let your imagination run free as the Lord of Form, completes his journey through the most optimistic, questing and philosophical sign of the zodiac. When Saturn moves into his home turf of Capricorn after December 20th, then will be the time to begin definite moves to actualize your dreams.

It’s time to deploy your inner special-forces warrior, Pallas Athene in the center of this spread is the Goddess who can handle whatever comes.

LIBRA

Siobhan

The CBD Tarot de Marseille 2010

I would run into the corner store, the bodega, and just grab a paper bag or buy juice – anything just to get a paper bag. And I’d write the words on the paper bag and stuff these ideas in my pocket until I got back. Then I would transfer them into the notebook.

― Jay-Z

Your ancestors say, seek within.
Your subconscious says, carry.
You need to know about integration.

Your ancestors say, seek within.

The hermit speaks of the close of the dialogue. Of the natural call and response of the universe. You seek, you find. You tend the lantern, you raise the light. It’s clear in the month ahead that the world will provide you what you need: closure, wisdom, stillness.

As we end this year, perhaps you remember a search in 2016, the Hermit Year. Maybe it was a year of looking for the person with the answers. Whereas in 2017, The Wheel Year, you’ve come full circle. And it is clear that the person with the answers is you. You recognize Sagittarius season as a union of new endings and old beginnings. ‘Tis the season of paradox. You understand it as a creative threshold and will pass through.

Your subconscious says, carry.

In the quote above the bodega is a marketplace, a greenhouse of ideas.  In this quote, the bag is the receptacle of creative visioning. It stores what is harvested from the depths.  Often when we talk about the Fool, there is an outward focus, the cliff, the journey, the dog. When we talk about the bag that the fool carries, it’s often in the context of oblivion. The fool doesn’t know what’s in the bag. The fool isn’t ready for what’s in the bag.

What if the Fool knows that it is not yet time to work with the contents of the bag? What if the Fool knows that now is the time just to carry it. It is wisdom. It is a sense of innocence and adventure. It is the demonstration of the Fool’s peace with the unknown.

Only a Fool would write on a bag when it’s meant to carry things.
Only a Fool would be open enough to use old tools in new ways.
New endings. Old beginnings.

You need to know about integration.

Libra neither looks to the past for answers nor to the future for a purpose. Libra is here for the now. Present moment integration. We see in Justice a union of opposites; the vulnerable tip on the bare right column; the sharp boundary created with the interruption of the sword in front of the second column; the gray matter of the mind punctuated by the third eye.

Everything useful is in the present moment as communicated by Justice, by Libra. Do as Justice does. Face everything. Use everything. Integrate everything. Being balanced is being yourself.

SCORPIO

Ashley

Linestrider Tarot Llewellyn, 2016

Oh, my fellow Scorpios. We are stepping out of our deep plunge of our season and leaping full force into Sagittarius’s blazing fires. If there is one thing we learned (I’m sure we learned more than one), it’s that we have to be deliberate with our choices, with our actions. Judgement is one of those cards that pulls you in and demands that you see things for how they are not as they could be. It’s so easy to get trapped in the fanciful, but we must continue our course. And take note of the mask in this particular card, it’s slightly lifted and their smile is almost a smirk, testing and bating you. Show them your Scorpio powers of discernment.

Our Three of Wands is fully supported by Sagittarius’s fiery energy, light long our Wands and reminding us to stay creative, stay playful, and watch our stories unfold a little more. Keep watch for all you began and planned in the deep waters of Scorpio season and watch the fires rise up.

And in case we thought we getting off this easy, our Shadow Card for the season is The Star. It will be easy to burn out, so make sure you are paying careful attention to your health. Physically, mentally, spiritually. Don’t neglect your needs and take rest when you need to. We are fairly used to diving deep and staying focused, but when we are in Sagittarius’s broad scope fires, we may get a little off our game. The Star reminds us to take care and be gentle with ourselves.

SAGITTARIUS

Cameron

The Antiquarian Tarot by Maree Bento, published by Divine Muses 2013

Happy Birthday, Sagittarius! Many blessings as you celebrate the season of YOU!

The Page of Pentacles says that this Sagittarius season is going to be a great time for some new projects, especially ones that are tied to financial outcomes. Whether this means going for your own entrepreneurial endeavors or looking for a new job, now is the time to get things rolling. Even if you’re just feeling the urge to pick up a new skill or hobby, honor that impulse. Our darling Page is also letting you know that in the course of these new pursuits, you shouldn’t forget to share what you’re up to. She’s holding her Pentacle high above her head as if to say “y’all, look at this awesome new thing I’m doing! Isn’t it cool? I love it!” Doing a little self-promotion will help you find community and create important connections which will nurture you and keep you motivated.

Sagittarius loves to shoot for the stars, so it’s fitting, or perhaps ironic, that The Star card has shown up to caution you about getting too caught up in your expectations. While you’re pursuing all these exciting new projects and opportunities it can be quite tempting to start imagining incredible outcomes. Ambition is great when it’s used for creative fuel, but this month’s journey is about the process, not the destination. So try to stay focused on what you are doing today, and not so much on where you hope to end up tomorrow. Too much focus on results will put you at risk for disappointment and disillusionment.

Remember how I mentioned holding up your pentacle so other folks can find you? Well, that’s exactly what we see in the Ten of Pentacles. Your community is going to be your most powerful tool while you’re getting these new projects off the ground. If you already have a support network, bounce ideas off of them, let them know you need encouragement, ask them to give you a reference. There’s nothing wrong with leveraging your social connections to help you move forward, though of course don’t just use people for what they can do for you. If you are short on community, now is a good time to start looking for folks who share your passion and who are seeking mutual support. It may be worth attending a local meetup or finding an online group. You may discover that the community you create becomes its own reward.

Ah, Capricorn – we’re finally moving out of the murky emotional landscape that was Scorpio season! How did you fare? That was definitely a time of self-questioning, wondering if you’d make some important choices effectively, finding yourself uncharacteristically emotional and not at all comfortable with it.

However, this emotional rollercoaster was a veiled invitation to explore your inner world, your personal relationship with tradition, with the institution, and with spirituality. This brush with “feeling it all” opened you up to some positive nostalgia, a remembrance of how much past structures in your life lifted you up and spoke to your soul – hold on to those particular feelings, because they will serve you very well moving forward.

What needs to be shed, now that you’ve had a big taste of it, is the more immature, foot-stomping resistance to the changes that are now underway and must continue, as they are truly leading you to the outcome you’ve wanted from all this, albeit on a roundabout path that doesn’t even have a map.

How frustrating for you, but the challenge now is to allow yourself to be guided by your heart, a pull you’ve been aware of for some time and are just now learning to open up and give in to. Trust that hope will guide you in the direction you need to go to regain a sense of security in your life, and know that even now you are much better off than your emotional compass is letting on.

Capricorn now is a time to let your true, honest character speak for itself: you know what you need to do to pull yourself together and get back on top. You’ve come through the worst in the material/financial sphere and can trust that you have enough resources to sustain not only yourself but also the others who have been needing so much from you lately (part of that emotional landslide you’ve just come through!).

Keep giving, knowing that the universe will always return to you exactly what you need! You asked for a more meaningful life and it is being delivered – keep thinking on the ideas for a new direction that you’ve been tending in the back of your mind, knowing you’re still needed exactly where you are. In the meantime, continue to observe yourself, and keep up the good work in digging deep to release the painful patterns that once weighed so heavily on your forward trajectory – no more. You are truly working towards a place where you feel free to make your long-held dreams concrete.

AQUARIUS

Jessi

The Druidcraft Tarot, Connections Publishing, 2004

Creative, Innovative Aquarius,

Ever the social butterfly, the Sagittarian season sees you instead turning inwards to reflect on the path you’re travelling and the landscape that lies ahead. Your natural inclination towards following the flow will be checked this month—how can you broaden your vision? How can you work with a plan to achieve your aims? How can you make friends with routine so you can channel your creativity towards a specific direction? How might you incorporate a more consistent spiritual practice to help you achieve balance and stability?

At the onset, this reflection concerns the macrocosm—the bigger picture. You may find yourself considering your place within different communities and working out how these communities intersect. It’s a good time to take a deeper look at relationship dynamics and how well you’re living in accordance with your higher truths. The opportunity for transpersonal experience is ripe—discover and explore the ways you escape yourself and connect with something greater.

As you move through this reflection, you’ll find the subject matter growing darker and deeper. You may cross the threshold of your shadow realm and poke around your subconscious, stirring up challenging emotions that lead to potentially painful realizations. As you rehash old wounds and unearth long buried secrets, you may find yourself growing in resentment towards those who’ve harmed you in the past—your work here will be to reconcile what you’ve discovered with your understanding of who you are and your acceptance that others’ wrongdoings are the result of their fears and insecurities

Even though it will prove challenging, try to resist the urge to shy away from this introspection—it may feel a little strange or uncomfortable, but the payoff will be well worth it. If you find yourself flagging or slipping into doubt, connect with your ancestors, your archetypes, your deities, your heroes—whoever inspires you and helps you summon the strength to continue your quest in power. Remember, when it comes to your psyche, you call the shots—you have the ability to learn, listen, and act according to your will and choice.

PISCES

Amanda

Nature Spirit Tarot by Jean Marie Herzel (self-published, 2014)

Dearest Pisces, you will be sitting in the lap of the High Priestess this month, an experience that will give you no shortage of awe and wonder at the glories of this Universe, this Earth, and You! As winter descends on the northern hemisphere, the darkness will call to you, and you will suddenly become aware of your intuition’s raw power. Dreams and premonitions will be your secret weapons, providing you with glimpses of the unknown and the future.

Now would be a good time to start a dream journal, to get a Tarot reading, or to start to learn the cards yourself. Also, pay attention, because you’ll see a healthy amount of amethyst around, particularly for those of you born in February. The amethyst is there to assist you in your spiritual development and to calm you so you can open up and bask in the High Priestess’s esoteric wisdom. It will be a helpful tool.

With the King of Wands, we know that your intuition will serve as a strong guide in whatever you do. He also brings to your life a good deal of restraint. Passions will be felt intensely but to an extent. Cravings will be kept at bay with an impressive amount of firmness. Diets or other food-based regimens will be retained. In fact, your friends and colleagues will marvel at your ability to say “no” to that piece of cake, the extra glass of wine, or other temptation.

This is because a deeper knowing will be driving you toward a greater good, a higher purpose. My lovely Pisces, this is a step up from the norm. You’ll be operating on a different plane than most people and that might set you apart. At the same time, your soul’s development will benefit and the life that you are meant to lead will unfurl further. In short, it’s time to move forward. You can do this.

A heady seduction also comes out to play this month. For those of you that are single, this appears to be a very sexy time, one where trysts are had in secret. For those of you in committed relationships, you may find yourselves separated from your loved one, making desires grow stronger…and the potential for cheating greater. A warning, however. There is no messing with the High Priestess, and unbalanced relationships, new or old, will not survive without some effort. So, tread carefully, my Friends. Broken-hearted is no way to spend the holiday season.

All in all, this is a powerful month, one that will see you succumb to your intuitive power. Respect the pull of this force, and everything will fall into place. Blessings!
