ARIES

Brittany

Pagan Otherworlds Tarot, published September 2016 by Uusi Design Studio

Happy birthday, Aries! I’m honored to get to do the Aries reading for our season. I only pulled three cards for us, but they’re all heavy majors, so let’s take them one by one.

It’s fitting that the Emperor would show up since this is the archetype ruled by Aries. The Emperor can be a difficult energy for people to work with. This makes sense because the archetype is often associated with things like patriarchy and violence and brutish masculinity. But I like to take a different stance when working with the Emperor because I think the archetype is often deeper than we give it credit for. For me, the Emperor is about taking up space. The Emperor never asks for permission, and never questions their size. When I pull this card, it’s a reminder that I can be as vast and expansive as I choose to be. Aries folks are known for their supersized confidence, and the Emperor is inviting you to sink deep into that confidence this month. Be comfortable in your power. Know your worth. Never apologize for the size of your body or your brain or your voice.

The Wheel of Fortune is here to remind us that we are shifting into our time, my Aries friends! Winter is long and dark and deep, but spring is here now and does not dream of death. The Wheel of Fortune offers simple medicine here: enjoy this shift into spring. You’ve done the deep internal work of winter, and it’s time to lift yourself into a brighter, more physical place. Aries is the baby of the zodiac, and because of that, Aries folks can embody a truly infectious joy. You are so good at celebrating, Aries, so do it! Connect with your body. Go outside. Sync with the aliveness of spring and feel more alive yourself.

The World wraps up this reading with gentle joy. Winter can be difficult for Aries. It’s dark and cold, and it’s often a time of deep hibernation and deep internal work. This is necessary for everyone, but I think that fire signs like Aries can have more difficulty with this than others. Because of this, the World is a comfort. This is a big archetype, and it’s one with vast and cosmic meanings. But it’s not always so complicated because, at its root, the World is about coming home. Aries, your home is spring. It’s blooming flowers and budding trees and mating animals and clear bright sunshine. This is your season, and it’s going to feel so good.

TAURUS

Diana

Sacred India Tarot by Rohit Arya, Yogi Impressions

Let’s be real, Taurus. Aries season is one hell of a hot start. Compared to your placid nature, Aries provides the catalyst in bringing forth changes and taking risks. With this season, there might be some rough moments. That’s not to say you won’t survive. Instead, there’s plenty of learning lessons to experience along the way, while making the adjustments for a better life for yourself and your relationships with others.

The Eight of Discs (Pentacles) will be a focal point during Aries season as you’re picking up the pieces after dreamy Pisces season. Your mind is focused on getting your priorities straight. One thing to keep in mind is the Sanskrit word Slistatva (translation for skillful application of learning). It’s a severe feeling in which one must consider how can we utilize our limited resources during the pursuit of knowledge, whether if it’s on education or spiritual level. You may be looked upon with keen observation. However, keep in mind that one of the lessons you can take upon is knowing when to utilize your newfound information in tricky situations and when to hold back and remain humble during your journey.

The Five of Lotuses (Cups) offers some insight as to how you’re coping emotionally during Aries season. As such, you may be feeling the need to go on your soapbox and express your discontentment with your surroundings. I get the sense of a karmic loss. Maybe there were some points in the last zodiac season you haven’t come to terms with and as a result, you’re experiencing an impacted blow towards your ego. What more frustrating than to see a Taurus feeling like there’s a loss of confidence, only because one did not take the time to adopt the change and relied on its stubbornness aspect. Suffering from an emotional injury doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. It’s just a healthy reminder that there are some kinks to be worked out and the fog has been cleared, after sitting in a murky illusion.

Justice provides the sense of relief – any karmic actions will be answered. A fair balance is met in the middle. Even if you can’t see it right away, do know that your challenges end with adequate understanding. Nothing in excess. Preferably, this is a time where your communication must be met in a clutter-free manner. Debts will be paid one way or another. Instead of focusing on seeing others get their moments served, look towards to getting your life back together. Some decisions may not be easy to make since you’re looking at a focal point in fairness and with the intention of love. Consider how your role as a nurturer and provider towards your relationships will impact. Are you freely giving away decisions based on merit? Or are you doing it because you’re trying to appease both sides while sacrificing your integrity?

Beloved Taurus, there’s room for growth during Aries season. It’s a matter of how willing you’re able to move past your stubbornness and aligning yourself with the changes without fear of being burned.

GEMINI

Gina

Borderless Smith-Waite, U.S. Games Systems, 2017

You’re motivated and ambitious this Aries season, dear Gemini. Your mind is aflame with plans and ideas that will require growth and adventure. Use this energy to lay plans that feel right to you. You have an excellent base to build off of, all earned by your hard work and determination.

You want to move forward and get going, but there’s just something slightly off, and it’s hard to put a finger on it. You’d rather rush ahead and commit to a plan of action, of course, yet you’re finding yourself holding off, maybe even retreating a bit to get a larger perspective on things.

You’re unsure of this next step because it’s big and important. This isn’t an issue of fear – all of these wands show us how much energy you have to offer. It’s not going anywhere. You can lovingly shush the part of yourself that’s concerned about your abilities. You’ve got the skills, and you’ve got the motivation. Yet an essential part of this plan just isn’t clear to you yet. Wisely, you’ve decided to wait until you figure things out. You can do so much, but the questions to ask is, “should I do something just because I can do it?”

This month is a good time to heed your internal messages. You’re onto something here! Take time to think and feel this new path through. Planning for the future is full of unknowns, but you can always remain centered in yourself. The Four of Cups shows you pumping the brakes and taking some time away. At first, this might seem boring in comparison to the bustling, visionary energy of the Two and Three of Wands. But one can only write to-do lists for so long. Opening yourself up to another channel of inspiration and guidance will be very rewarding in the days to come.

The Four of Cups also hints at the nature of your block. There’s an emotional component that hasn’t clicked yet. Is a part of you hesitant to make this change? Do you feel uncomfortable venturing into new territory? This card shows us that you need a little time to feel aligned and at ease in your new adventure-filled role. Care for yourself as you feel this one through.

Indeed, feeling is the operative word here, not acting or thinking. Connect with your body, mind, and instincts and let them guide you forward. The lists have been written and the plans laid out. Once things start, they’ll move quickly. Take this time to ease into alignment before the action starts. It may be the most important and worthwhile part of your process. I have a feeling you’ll be looking back at this time with warmth as you speed forward on your new adventure.

CANCER

HiC

Sirian Starseed Tarot by Patricia Cori & Alysa Bartha.

CARD FOR CANCER • XIV Temperance
HERBAL ALLY • Echinacea

Ponder this …

• Can I let myself just experiment and see what happens without concern for « right » or « permanent »?

• Am I making sure to think before I speak, to consider before I act ?
• How can I tap back into that deep-seated reservoir of hope and optimism ?
• What spiritual and philosophical work can take me deeper into the mystery of understanding who I am, why I’m here, and what I truly need to be doing ?

« This is why alchemy exists,” the boy said. “So that everyone will search for his treasure, find it, and then want to be better than he was in his former life. That’s what alchemists do. They show that, when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too. » Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

A bit of a double whammy on the astrological front this month as Jupiter in Scorpio has just gone retrograde (8 March ~ 10 July) plus Mercury goes retrograde in Aries from 22 March ~ 15 April. We may feel this a bit more starkly simply because we’re coming out of a two month period with no planets in retrograde. So this sudden shift may feel like walking into a glass door, « Where did that come from ?! » where it seemed like things were falling in to place and humming along fairly easily prior. We’re being asked to slow down, take some time for some philosophical pondering about where we’re headed, what’s important and of value to us, and whether we’re trying to fool ourselves into claiming something is « okay » as a way to avoid the process of change.

Jupiter’s journey through secretive Scorpio holds its magnifying glass on all that has been hiding in the shadows. The retrograde period is a time of reflection on what we believe in and what motivates us. Deeper spiritual and philosophical work to plumb the mysteries of why and what it’s all about for us becomes the focus that can lead to profound insights and greater understanding of why we’re here, what we’re meant to do, and why we’re doing it.

Mercury retrograde in Aries can mean that anything we say off hand in the next few weeks will quickly come back to haunt us. This will call your attention to where any self-centered thinking is working against you and your goals. Traveling backward in aggressive Aries for three weeks is bound to launch ideas and plans that will never come true. Matters started during Mercury Rx often fail to deliver as promised. It’s a poor time to make long-term commitments. So use this period to explore ideas and possibilities, sift them through the process of asking why it’s important and if it would be worth it in the long run, and then hold off on choosing or making any binding commitment to something until the latter part of April and beyond.

All of this is perfectly reflected in the card that showed itself for this month, XIV Temperance (Alchemy).

The next few weeks need to be approached like a test kitchen, where we go in and experiment with different ingredients, try out different proportions, and are willing to taste and toss to keep perfecting rather than putting it on the menu before it’s ready for primetime. New, unique, non-traditional combinations of elements can produce startlingly exciting new forms and possibilities. We may be surprised what comes about as a result of mixing things up that we might not normally put together.

A balanced approach is going to be crucial to offset tendencies toward (Jupiter retrograde) overindulgence, overspending for instant gratification, as well as (Mercury retrograde) words and actions that happen before the brain can kick in.

A middle path, a willingness to negotiate and compromise, will pay long-term dividends. Otherwise, we may get what we want, but it will be a flash in the pan situation that won’t sustain or survive the long term and may end up doing greater damage than it does good.

This card can indicate a return of hope and optimism or maybe even an unavoidable longing for those qualities after feeling they’ve been absent for far too long from our minds, hearts, and spirits. Use these next few weeks to turn your gaze gently but confidently to what the future can hold, what is possible and where you’d like to head. Don’t let what has come before continue to define or weigh down the ability to dig deeper into that well of the Soul that knows everything changes and anything can shift, evolve, grow.

Believe once more in the possibility and potential of tomorrow rather than being lost in what has come before.

LEO

Jessi

The Ostara Tarot, Red Feather Publishing, 2017

Strong, Self-Confident Leo,

Holy woo moly—this Aries season is going to be as lively, flamboyant, and powerful as you are. Buckle your seatbelts, because you’re in for one hell of a ride.

First, let’s look at your stars: Mercury moved into Aries on March 6 and will remain there until April 15, giving you a jolt of extra confidence and the brazen ability to speak your truth to as many as are willing to hear it. With Mercury falling into retrograde on March 22, however, it creates the perfect storm for an utter communication breakdown–you may find yourself hurling blunt verbal objects in all directions, enveloping you in a rolling tide of drama and shifting relationship dynamics. Though you’re not one to hold your tongue, you may discover some long-buried resentments that you didn’t know were there, and these epiphanies could spur you to set some serious boundaries or tear down some walls that have kept you from fully blooming into your expression.

You can work with this energy in one of two ways. First, you can let it course through you freely and so become a powerful agent of destruction, laying waste to what no longer works and driving off what hinders or stifles you. If you’d rather have a more balanced experience, you can instead use it as a barometer to help you pinpoint what you’d like to shift. This way, you can temper your reactions so you have a bit more control over how things play out over the next four weeks. Both have their advantages and disadvantages—the choice is ultimately up to you.

Now, let’s take a look at your cards: The World, the Wheel of Fortune, and The Lovers illustrate the perfect progression from macrocosm to microcosm, suggesting that you begin the month with an acute awareness of the power and dynamism of your mass-scale relationships. You may find yourself riding the tide of a cosmic channel—meditation, spiritual practice, and communion with the natural world will feel organic and effortless. Given that Mercury’s in retrograde, this is the perfect time to take a step back and assess the lay of the land. Check in with your goals and take a look at the structures you’re working with, and if anything needs tweaking, go for it. Just be sure to take time to think about the changes you want to make before you make them.

As you move into the middle of the month, you’ll be invited to sharpen your focus as your path takes an unexpected turn—you may experience some turbulence in a relationship or two, and you’ll have to confront the consequences of your bold outspokenness. Know that cosmic forces are working through others as strongly as they’re working through you, and chances are that you’ll find yourself on the receiving end of a tirade or two. If you and your loved ones can navigate and integrate these interactions, everyone will grow stronger and more resolute in their desire to create strong bonds.

As your month rounds out, you’ll have the opportunity to fully enjoy the fruits of your labors. Conflicts that you were able to address and move through will lay the foundation for stronger relationships, and you may find yourself more interpersonally satisfied than you have been in years. As long as you can take this wild energy as an opportunity to grow into an honest, more genuine expression of self (and if you can hold space for others and allow them to do the same), you have the potential to create a harmonious environment in which love and creativity can thrive.

VIRGO

Abbie

Slow Holler Tarot, published November 2016, slowholler.com

You can call it a love song,
You can call it a death rattle,
You can call it a battle cry.
– Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre

Aries season brings with it the power and will for a fresh start, and you are channeling all of that into your passions this month. You’ve got something big to say, and you shouldn’t shy away from your voice. Aries is a blazing fire, and you’ve got more than enough fire under your wings to take you far.

Now is not the time for dreaming and rest, now is the time for living fully and unapologetically. You have taken the time that you need to heal, to recuperate. The season you’re closing out has been one of intense mental healing, working with your mind through trauma or tragedy. This means that until now, you’ve been tentative in approaching your passions.

What if you get it wrong?

Don’t worry about that this time. You’ve got the whole scope of the World behind you.

The World is a state of both completion and beginning. The World shows how far you’ve come in the last twelve months. You’ve moved through the fires of creation, the waters of intuition, the clarity of air, and the stability of earth, and are ready to fully incorporate your lessons. The World can often be seen as a very simple card, but when I look at this card, I see both completion and potential. You are the seed, and you are also the fruit.

Unbidden, as I stared at your cards the lines from Guante’s poem sprung to my mind. Because this month you will see all of these things. You are the love song – you are finally willing to accept the beauty of your life. You are the death rattle, learning to live with your shadows and to transform them, transmute them, ascend them to higher levels of existence, and not afraid to feel deeper levels of pain. As for the battle cry: You must summon from within your pain and fear the courage to fight for what you believe in.

Aries season isn’t here to play with you. You’ve been putting something off for far too long, and you can’t ignore it. You’ve taken the time to gather the information you need, but now is the time to synthesize everything and bring it together. Whatever is brewing for you, it is related to identities that you have been wary of, but that can be hidden no longer.

You are the battle cry.

LIBRA

Noel

The Numinous Tarot by Noel Arthur Heimpel, 2018

Exciting things are on the horizon for you, Libra—or perhaps beyond it, as you take the Fool’s plunge from the cliff and into uncharted waters below! If you have been standing on the precipice of a new venture, a new relationship (with yourself or others), a new you, now might be the time to trust your gut and step out into the blue. I get the feeling you might be surprised to find yourself here at the edge. Back at the beginning, again? Yep, again. And again, and again.

The good news is, you’re ready for whatever lies ahead. The Mystic of Candles and the Creator of Tomes are a powerfully balanced duo of fire and earth, and balance is something you excel at. Both are patient and enduring; the Mystic of Candles burns with a passion, not like a roaring bonfire, but the intense, slow coals that are left behind. The kind of heat that is used to melt earth and forge it into new tools to cut your life into the shape of your desires. The Creator of Tomes provides the materials for the forge, having already spent weeks or months or years mining precious resources with dedication and purpose. You. Are. Ready.

The question is, for what? What waits for you beneath the waves? What lightning is ready to strike, to catalyze your transformation and bless your newly created tools? This season, delve into the heat of your soul and the earth of your body. Your lungs are the bellows of your forge as you breathe life into the world you’re creating at this cliff’s edge. Plunge your sword into the sea and see what rises with the steam. Don’t be surprised if the result is something you’ve long dreamed of becoming real—behind you is the long road it took to become both Mystic and Creator. As always, it turns out that the end of the road is also the beginning of a new one.

SCORPIO

Ashley

The Linestrider Tarot

My beautiful, deep feeling Scorpios. We are coming out of such a heavy Pisces season, being greeted by the wonder that is Aries. Perhaps we don’t always know what to do with their raging quick fire passions, but the energy of this reading is bringing us some much-needed support.

Our favorite Death card, yes? Incredibly fitting to remind us that we are shedding another zodiac year, stepping into a new space. What have you learned? What do you still need to sit with? Directly opposite Death, The Hermit tells us there is some internal work, some processing that will need to be done. And remember, this is all boosted by the energetic Aries season, so we can get this shit done. Aries will not let us remain stagnant or let us stay hidden for too long.

Let’s wield our words and wisdom as the Page of Swords, with all readiness and youthful joy that we gained from the lessons and trials we overcame. There will be much wisdom for us to share after we take the time to dissect it and peel back its layers. So much goodness. Where were you this time last year? Did you transform in the ways you wanted to? If not, it’s okay. This is yet another opportunity to do so.

And lastly, our Wheel of Fortune reminds us just to embrace everything Aries season has for us. It’s the beginning, coming swiftly after a needed death, and we can usher in the way for our fellow people. We are intimately familiar with endings and beginnings. As long as we turn inward with the intention of coming out again, refreshed and renewed, we will have a powerful Aries season ahead.

Happy Aries season, you gorgeous Scorpio.

SAGITTARIUS

Colin

Rider-Waite deck. First published 1910

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been freezing through these last few winter storms (NYC, USA here). Okay so we’ve had the equinox, and the clocks (northern hemisphere) went forward, and there’s more light in the evening now, but where is the warmth, the heat?

So this spread is kinda-sorta an invoking pentagram of fire spread. Take it in this order:

7 of Pentacles
The Magician
The Moon
2 of Cups
9 of Wands
The Sun

And yes, if you laid out the cards in that sequence in the shape of a five-pointed star, you would have invoked the powers of fire with a pentagram – if that was your intention.

I reckon there is some harmony to be found here. But maybe it’s harmony through conflict…

The Sun and the Moon, the Moon twice, once as the Moon itself and also in the 9 of Wands which is Moon in Sag, show up here. So your feeling nature is indicated, as are your needs, how you find nourishment, what you need to feel secure. But… and … the final card (the one that seals the pentagram) is the Sun, the source of all fire. Light and heat. So it’s also about your solar journey. That which you are most deeply striving to become.

The other planetary presences are Mercury in the Magician, Venus in the 2 of Cups and Saturn in the 7 of Pentacles.

Well, When Mercury and Venus work together, there can be very good timing. And the 2 of cups traditionally signifies a new stage in a relationship – a friendship turns amorous, perhaps. The title of the 7 of Pentacles is ‘The Lord of Dissatisfied Work’ and the title of the 9 of Wands is ‘The Lord of Great Strength.’ Question: have you endured much, and is it now time to mark a turning point? Is there a relationship (maybe even an internal one), or a situation in some department of life that would benefit from a little gentle examination, a little dispassionate assessment with an eye to revitalization, refreshment, restoration?

The energies are there.

CAPRICORN

Jennifer

:Dust II Onyx Tarot: A Melanated Tarot by Courtney Alexander

“Uh, it feel so good
When you let go
Avoid these drama in your life…
Free from all the game
Free from all the stress…
It’s up to us to choose
Whatever we win or loose
And I choose to win”
– Lyrics from No More Drama by Mary J. Blige

Capricorn, your affirmation for this month is “I set clear and firm boundaries around taking responsibility for my behavior and management of energy/resources.”

Dear Capricorn, Aries seasons comes with the battle cry for you to face head on the temptations, toxic habits, dependencies and habits that keep stirring up inner and outer conflict and cause you to go to extremes and become in need of rescuing or rescuing others.

First, reflect on the beast that keeps causing your derailment. Is it mismanagement of your precious resources (time, energy, money); pursuing relationships wrought with conflict, harmful tension and unhealthy competition, not having firm boundaries with your time and commitments. So that you stay up too late, drink too much, get stuck in fear, procrastinate, or drop what’s seemingly important to you to help someone else? Second, stop feeding the beast! We don’t want to see your passion wane but would prefer that you harness and focus it so that it serves you instead of wreaking havoc in your life.

Your tarot allies this month are Temptation (The Devil), Five of Staffs (Wands), and Six of Coins (Pentacles).

The issue at hand, Temptation (The Devil), is that you are getting in your own way. Something keeps luring you off track. What drama do you keep getting sucked into that becomes a never-ending distraction? What is it that is causing a derailment or traffic jam in your life? Once you recognize, be ruthless about putting clear boundaries into place – both for yourself and others so that you don’t get lured back into unhealthy habits patterns.

The challenge, the Five of Staffs, is that you are stubborn about whatever conflict that has been presented. You want to do everything yourself because let’s face it; you always know the right and best way to do something. And you don’t trust anyone to do it as good as you. You kind of want what you want the way you want it and are willing to fight to the death for it. Maybe you declare, “I will never conform or give in!” And while that may be true, all the fighting is depleting you and keeping you stuck in perpetual tension. Something has got to give, and you must decide where and how you can come to a creative compromise. You want to make progress, you want to win, but your combat strategy is not working, so it’s time to draft a new one.

The solution, the Six of Coins, is to be more responsible with your precious resources – your time, energy and money. While you may wear your stubbornness as a badge of honor, these times are calling for you to be flexible. Where can you give more? Where can you reach out more? Where do you need to be more open to receiving? Where do you need to give less because someone or something is bleeding your resources?

It’s time to take the reigns and set down some clear boundaries that protect you from going off the rails and sabotaging all that you desire and have worked for. You can do it! Remember, you are a winner.

What if there’s a sword for the tragedies of our ancestors? What if our hands remember? A blade for every birth. Every sickness. Every success. What if in life we walk the space between these blades? What if we make and multiply these blades with mental vigils? Are they trophies? Barriers? Needed tools? How can we know for sure we have what it takes to navigate them?

If surrounded on all sides by a wall of your beliefs, sit still.

We can’t drop who or where we are or what we think. Not in an instant. But we can pause and listen to a body that inhabits a world beyond the tiny circle of our perceptions.

Maybe you aren’t about the pause. Maybe you see eight reasons to push through for every clear sign from your life that it’s time to chill. Maybe you don’t yet trust your momentum and think that the moment you stop, it’s over.

There was a time when this was true. Where every defensive thought you have, every depressive episode, and all the doubt would have been the cocoon to keep you safe. There still are those times. The brain conserves automatically. The heart expands with practice.

Your default settings are reptilian, conservative, contractive. Rejoice that they got you to where you are. Your very existence is a triumph. Without tokens of success or status. Without a steady diet of stress. You do not need to earn your way out of your trauma.

Trust.

What if your openness and healing are generational? What if we share more than circumstance with ancestors? Trust is the vehicle of expansion, the fuel for the heart, the gateway to receiving. Nothing will come through the circle that you don’t invite in.

Honor your swords.

The physical world is black and white; poverty is poverty, despair is despair. Honor the places where you invite in poverty consciousness on top of the actual poverty; habitual despair on top of the fleeting kind. Honor the challenge that popped out from beyond you. Honor the impermanence of all of these swords. No matter how solid they look.

I get it. You need what you need.

Take care to let your perspective pave the way to what’s needed rather than block its path.

PISCES

Ariel

Ostara Tarot (Schiffer Publishing, 2017)

Dreamy Pisces,

This Aries Season is about transition and movement for you in every sense. A complete shift. You are not at the end nor the beginning but in the flow of the unknown. In the spaces in between…

The Light – 6 of Swords

You are moving towards the light, leaving conflict and nightmares behind you. The snakes have shown their scales. You see the truth with new clarity and realize it’s time to move on to calmer waters. Mental clarity and peace are on their way to you. Keep moving in this positive direction. You may not be able to fully see where you’re headed as of yet, all you know is that you can no longer stay where you’ve been. Use this part of your journey to recover and regain a sense of tranquil serenity.

The Shadow – 8 of Cups

There is sadness in transition, in change. As we leave our comfort zones for something new, we often look back longingly at what once was or what could’ve been. There is a mental transition, yes, but often that may be easier than leaving the emotions or relationships behind. Don’t get caught up in the loss or longing. Take the lesson and leave the rest. Yes, you may be a bit unhappy that this transition has to occur in the first place. However, you do realize it is necessary to bring you closer to your joy.

The Anchor – The Emperor

The namesake of the season shows up for you dear Pisces with The Emperor proudly displaying his horns. Embrace the energetic vibration of Aries as a saving grace, an anchor, a lifeboat, a way out – a lifeline. For calm and stability amidst all of this shifting, this transition, this movement. Determined and focused although a bit impulsive and aggressive at times, The Emperor knows what they want, who they are, and their skill set, for that, is how they make their mark on the world. They are fearless! The Emperor invites you to learn these things about yourself this Aries Season. This is about the study of you and what you’re made of – your boundaries, ethics, integrity, sense of personal autonomy and individuality. Who ARE you Pisces? This Aries season, you just might find out.

From my soul to yours,
xo Ariel
